What is a smart switch?

A smart switch is a type of switch, similar to the conventional light switches we are familiar with. However, it offers additional functionality. Not only can it control lighting, but it can also operate other electrical appliances such as ovens or electric heaters. Furthermore, it can activate what are known as ‘scenarios’ in a smart home.

A ‘scenario’ refers to a set of actions that are triggered when the smart switch is activated. For instance, when exiting the house, a single press of a smart switch could simultaneously turn off all the lights and close the blinds throughout the home. This is the convenience and automation that a smart switch can provide.

There are two types of Smart switches

The first category includes the standard switches that are present in every household. These switches can be upgraded to smart switches using the Automata system.

The second category is touch switches. These are elegantly designed panels that come with a lighting indicator and can control any light fixture or electrical load with just a touch. A broad variety of designs are available for selection, or custom designs can be ordered to meet the customer’s specific requirements.

Smart Three-Way Switches

A three-way switch provides the convenience of controlling a lamp from three separate locations. However, with the implementation of Automata’s smart switches, the lamp can be controlled from an unlimited number of locations. Additionally, these smart switches offer the flexibility to make changes, both during the wiring process and after it has been completed.

For instance, if we’ve decided that the entrance switch will activate the entrance lights, we can, at any point and without altering the wiring, specify that this same switch will also illuminate the kitchen lights. The system’s adaptability allows us to reduce the quantity of switches and wiring, and to set the function of each switch at a more convenient time for the user.
