    Reduce power consumption

    Reduce power consumption

In light of the escalating costs of electricity, it's crucial to reevaluate how we can prevent unnecessary power consumption and explore strategies for conserving energy and electricity.

Air conditioning systems contribute significantly to the electricity expenses in both residential and commercial spaces. Consider, for instance, a modestly sized air conditioner with a capacity of three and a half horsepower, suitable for a small to medium-sized room. As per the manufacturer’s specifications, under ideal conditions - when the unit is new and the filters are clean - the cost of operation, in Israel, is 35 cents per hour as of August 2022.

By making a modest estimate, the monthly electricity cost for each air conditioner, under normal usage, would range from 350 to 500 NIS. If we extrapolate this to an average home with three or four rooms, the total monthly expenditure on electricity for air conditioning alone would be between 1000 to 1300 NIS. It’s important to note that these costs are subject to increase over time.

So how can you reduce power consumption?

One practical approach is to install a central switch that powers down all air conditioners when leaving the building. Alternatively, if you have a smart building system, such as Automata, it can automatically turn off unnecessary lighting fixtures and other electrical devices. This can be done either by pressing a physical button or using a mobile app. By implementing these measures, you can effectively reduce electricity consumption and contribute to a more energy-efficient environment.

An alternative method involves setting up timers on air conditioning units, ensuring they automatically shut down during inactive periods at the office or residence. Automata provides the capability to equip each air conditioner with numerous timers, allowing for the customization of operational schedules for every day, including weekends and holidays. Utilizing Automata’s platform, you have the convenience of remotely deactivating all air conditioners instantly, anytime, using just a single tap in the application.

Computers consume a significant amount of electrical power.

Typically unnoticed, computers are substantial electricity consumers. The average household contains two to four computers, while workplaces may have upwards of 20.

Based on the IEC's rates as of August 2022, the hourly electricity expense for each office computer is estimated to be between one and one and a half New Israeli Shekels (NIS). Taking a cautious estimate, the monthly electricity cost for operating 20 computers for eight hours daily would amount to approximately 4,500 to 6,000 NIS, attributed solely to computer usage.
So how can you reduce electricity consumption?
Ensure that all computers are shut down during inactive periods, as well as on weekends and holidays.

The Automata system is capable of powering off all computers automatically at the close of business hours or upon exiting the residence. For instance, a work profile could be configured to automatically turn off all computers post-8:00 PM.

Automata provides energy-saving benefits by analyzing usage patterns within the premises. It ensures that, in the absence of occupants, all lights and air conditioning units are switched off automatically. The system dispatches a shutdown signal to all computers and preselected electrical devices. Moreover, a 'building close' routine can be initiated to disconnect power to appliances remotely via the app, at any given moment.
